Russell Pierce Shelton Jr., 78, a resident of Baldwin County for more than 50 years and living in Robertsdale, went to be with Jesus, his Lord and Saviour, on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Shelton Sr. and Mary Katherine Dupree Shelton; and a brother, Tommy Shelton.
He is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Mary Catherine Metcalf Shelton; four children, Elizabeth Ann “Beth” (Mark) Mund of Gulf Shores, Daniel Timothy “Tim” (Shelia) Shelton of Silverhill, Hope Evangeline “Vangie” (Harry) Bogner of Nashville, Tenn. and Susanna Grace “Sue” Shelton of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Phillip (Nan) Shelton of Prattville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Brother Russell came to know Christ at age 19 and thereafter devoted his entire life to ministering the love of Jesus to those around him; no one was too insignificant for his time. He was a dear friend to many.
Even since 1995, when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, he continued to pour out himself, loving all those with whom he came in contact. We will miss him so, but we rejoice that the shaking has turned to dancing and worshiping our Heavenly Father. See you soon Brother Russell, Rusty, Daddy and Papaw. You are finally free.
