Ruth Greenbury died in Fairhope, Ala. Nov. 10, 2015.

A proud native of Vinegar Bend, Ala., Mrs. Greenbury graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, New Orleans, La., where she served as a surgical nurse for several years. She and her husband, Robert N. Griswold, lived in Cincinnati and Shaker Heights, Ohio and Atlanta before retiring to Fairhope in 1973.

Several years after Mr. Griswold’s death, she married John Riesenfeld from New York who had retired to Fairhope. After Riesenfeld’s death she married Hoyt Greenbury, a popular area yachtsman. Mr. Greenbury died in 2001.

Mrs. Greenbury has been active in social, charitable and cultural activities in Fairhope and has been a generous contributor to Thomas Hospital, the Eastern Shore Art Center, Fairhope Public Library, Theatre 98 and her church, the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship, where she served a president in 1993-1994.

Greenbury is survived by four stepchildren Robert N. Griswold Jr., Dr. Susan Griswold, Dr. Robert Riesenfeld, Mary Riesenfeld Crawford and their spouses and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Roland Moodie of San Antonio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson Moodie and Robert Lee Moodie.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship, 1150 Fairhope Ave., Fairhope, AL 36532.

Mrs. Greenbury requested memorial gifts be made to the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship.
