Ruth Marie Schaper Day, 94, born Sept. 12, 1916 in Columbia City, Ind., a resident of Gainesville, Fla., died peacefully Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Woodlands Care Center.
She and her husband, Warren, married in 1941 and lived in Perdido Beach where she was a homemaker and active in the First Presbyterian Church of Foley.
She also volunteered in efforts to raise funds for the Perdido Beach Fire Department. She and her husband attended many World War II 113th Ordinance Army reunions and she continued to attend even after his death in 1988. She moved to the Atrium in Gainesville in 2005 to be near her daughter and moved to Woodlands Care Center in July 2010.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Laura Polhamus Schaper.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane of Earleton, Fla.; nieces Rita (David) Shookman, Helen (Don) Shuster and Sally Bauer; nephews, Robert (Evie) Day II, James L. (Linda) Carr and Richard Day; many grand nieces, grand nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held this summer in Foley.
