ROBERTSDALE, Alabama --- Preliminary results indicate that Ruthie Campbell has won the runoff race for Robertsdale City Council Place 3 over Aubrey Grant Jr.
Less than 14 percent of Robertsdale’s estimated 2,820 active voters cast their ballots on Tuesday with preliminary results showing that Campbell received 55.8 percent of the vote, topping Grant 216 to 171.
Results of Tuesday’s election are unofficial. Canvassing and final totals will be tallied on Tuesday, Oct. 30, but with no provisional votes to be counted, said election supervisor Shannon Ellison, the results are not expected to change.
The seat was the last in Central Baldwin to be decided as incumbents prevailed in most races in the Sept. 11 general election. The runoff was originally slated for Oct. 9 but was moved back after elections were postponed from Aug. 28 to Sept. 11 following the threat of Hurricane Isaac.
Campbell received 42 percent of the vote in the Sept. 11 election with Grant holding a slim lead over Jason W. Dixon to force the Oct. 23 runoff.
Robertsdale, Silverhill and Loxley will all swear in elected officials on Monday, Nov. 5 to serve four-year terms ending in 2016. Both Robertsdale and Loxley will begin their regular meetings at 6 p.m. with Silverhill beginning at 6:30. Loxley’s meeting was originally scheduled for Nov. 12, but was changed because of the Veterans Day observance.
In other elections held Sept. 11, Robertsdale Mayor Charles Murphy topped Roger Booth and Mayor Pro-Tem Joe Kitchens topped challenger Earl Colley, each receiving more than 70 percent of the vote while Brent Kendrick won re-election against Lisa Wallace Lee with more than 60 percent of the vote. Incumbents Sue Cooper and Paul Hollingsworth qualified unopposed.
In Loxley, incumbent Richard Teal won his seventh term in office over challenger Vicki Fore Dyess in the Sept. 11 election.
Mayor Billy Middleton and incumbent Council members Wallace Sabin, Jeffery T. Knight, Katherine Breeden and Michael Allegri Sr. qualified unopposed.
Silverhill will swear in one new council member on Nov. 5 with Michael Allegri Jr. qualifying unopposed to take over the seat vacated by longtime Council member Steve Brooks.
Bert Jones won re-election over challenger Frankie Kucera in the Sept. 11 election, while Jared Lyles prevailed over Tonie Norden and Wayne Gruenloh topped challenger Alan Norden.
Mayor Timothy Wilson and Shirley Stephens retained their seats on the Silverhill Council unopposed.
Challengers Mary Carolyn McDaniel and Cheryl Stewart will also be sworn in to serve on the Summerdale Town Council in November. McDaniel topped incumbent Ralph Clopton while Stewart prevailed over incumbent Gerald Hughes. Summerdale Mayor David Wilson, along with Mayor Pro-Tem Norma Wilson Giles, Travis Townsend and Myles Bishop were all re-elected unopposed.
