Sally Riggins Small

Sally Riggins Small, 78, a native of Cullman, a long time resident of Gulf Shores, and a resident of Austin, Texas, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011.

She graduated from Fairhope High School in 1949. She was a graduate of Florence State Teachers College in 1952 and received her masters in 1971. She retired as a teacher in the Alabama Public School System.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Thomas H. Small.

Survivors include three children, Thomas D. (Karen) Small of Centerville, Tenn., Rolan (Anita) Small of Peach Tree City, Ga., and Susan (Mike) McDonald of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Thomas P. and Jessica Small, Christopher and Justin Small, Jennifer Garber and Lauren McDonald; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dot (Rix) Threadgill of Fairhope and Mary (Ed) Babin of Birmingham; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation begins at noon with funeal services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley. Interment will follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
