Salvation Army opens new Foley storefront facility

FOLEY, Ala. — Area residents may be familiar with the Salvation Army’s Thrift Store in Foley, which raises funds for the organization’s programs. But now those programs can be easily accessed in the Forward City in the organization’s new Foley office, known as “The Outpouring: God’s Love for All People to All People.”

Dignitaries from Ecumenical Ministries, South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, the city of Foley and Salvation Army were on hand for a grand opening of the facility and ribbon cutting last week.

“I think the most important thing you provide for us is spirituality — a gift of hope,” Foley Mayor John Koniar said at the grand opening.

Located at 620 N. McKenzie St., Suites 100 and 200 in Foley, the facility will house about seven employees and provide a variety of social services, including a food pantry and emergency financial aid. Plus, homeless services will include facilities to get a shower, do laundry, apply for jobs online and skills to prevent homelessness.

In addition, the Salvation Army will begin holding weekly worship services after the new year, as well as LifeTree Café starting Jan. 8.

Also in January will begin the Baldwin County School of Music, designed to put musical instruments and training in the hands of Foley children.

“We will work with 12 students from Foley Elementary School,” Lt. Jacob Granados said.

He also explained that the organization’s ministries and programs in South Baldwin are still developing.

“Whatever role we end up taking, we will be that help for the citizens of Foley,” Williams said. “We just pray that God will bless the Salvation Army here.”

According to South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Donna Watts, the organization is a welcome addition to the Forward City.

“We’re so thankful that you’re here,” she said during the grand opening. “What you will bring to this community is something we very much need. You’ll help people get on their feet. I look forward to seeing all the lives you touch and change.”
