Sam's Stop and Shop was opened by Sam Contorno in 1978. It was then passed down to his son Mike Contorno and his nephew Steve Russo. Sam’s is currently being run by Mike with the help of this nephews Joe and Mark Russo. Together they have turned Sam’s into the unique place it is today! They have done this by creating a dependable, one of a kind, mini-department store within what most would call a gas station.

Sam’s sells everything from bait to $200 bottles of wine and would hold the title for fitting the most items into a square foot of space, if such a title existed. They have also built a reputation that few businesses could boast by being open 364 days a year (closing only for Christmas), 16 - 17 hours a day, and by being the first business to resume operations after a hurricane.

However, a business is nothing without its employees and Sam’s is no different. Sam’s employees are as unique and diverse as the store itself. Comprised mostly of women the employees are known to locals as the ‘Sam’s Girls’. These girls are generous, fun loving women with unique personalities that add to the eclectic atmosphere within Sam’s walls.

Some call us Sam’s Stop and Shop, others call us Sam’s Bait and Tackle, most just call us Sam’s. No matter what you call us there is no denying that Sam’s is unique!
