Samuel A. “Sam” Hovell Jr., 76, a longtime resident of Daphne, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at a local hospital.
He was born in Calvert to Esther Ruth Young Hovell and Samuel Augusta Hovell Sr.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Eastern Shore Baptist Church and Joe Southall Lodge 905 in Mt. Vernon. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and had recently received his 50 year pin as a member of Abba Temple Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara A. Hovell of Daphne; daughter, Jennifer H. (Doug) Faust of Ponchatoula, La.; son, Samuel A. Hovell III; one grandson, Reuben Tucker Faust of Ponchatoula; sister, Joyce Hovell Powell of Malcolm; other relatives and friends.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 at the Eastern Shore Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Wilson officiating. Interment with Masonic Graveside Rites will be at 2:30 p.m. at Calvert Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers are John Amburgy, Dwain Kinard, Kenneth Woodmansee, Kenneth Woodmansee Jr., Doug Faust and Jim Toler.
