Jean E. Sanders, 81, of Michiana Shores, Ind., died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Golden Living Center-Fountainview Terrace, LaPorte, Ind.
She was born Dec. 31, 1927 in Garrett, Ind., to Ronald Waldo “Jack” and Leora Trimble Lung.
Jean had been an art teacher in Saginaw, Mich., and Woodriver/Alton, Ill., Community High School, and the art supervisor in New Castle, Ind. She also taught adult education classes for the Dunes Art Foundation. On March 29, 1958 in Garrett, Ind., she married Mark G. Sanders.
They lived in Chicago from 1958 to 1961, where he was employed by R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. They transferred to the Warsaw, Ind., plant in 1961 where she was a member and later president of Tri Kappa, and co-president of the Washington School PTA. She attended St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Warsaw and belonged to the E.C.W. and organized the lenten suppers and was the Cheese Ball Chairman. She also co-owned a business called “Sand Kracker” for several years, where works of art were framed, rented, or sold.
They moved to their home in Michiana Shores in 2003 and transferred their church membership to Trinity.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Clay Meadows Sanders.
Survivors include her husband, Mark G. Sanders of Michiana Shores; daughter Lynn (Elizabeth) Banks of Katy, Texas; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Reesa Banks.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 14 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Michigan City, Ind.
