SUBJECTS TAUGHT: Kindergarten
SOMETHING UNUSUAL ABOUT YOURSELF: I’m from a family of teachers. My mom was a teacher and my sister teaches. I have a nephew and two nieces that teach, too.
Sarah Seitz taught kindergarten for 27 years at three different schools, Delta Elementary, a school in Conecuh County, and has been at J. Larry Newton in Fairhope for 16 years.
Seitz was the youngest of 6 children, and when her older brother went to school, she had the freedom to play whatever she wanted. Her dad and uncle built her a table and stools, and that’s where she started teaching.
“I was a 4-year-old teacher,” she says, laughing.
Seitz has always enjoyed being with children. She originally studied to become a home economics teacher, but Seitz felt kindergarten was where she was supposed to be.
“Working with the children is my favorite part about teaching,” she says. “Their smiles — they want to learn, to please you, to love you. I get to start their life in education.”
When she isn’t teaching, Seitz teaches piano to a few students, sews and enjoys camping with her husband David and son Jacob.
