FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Love hanging out around Mobile Bay? Love good music? Love having a good time while helping others? If your answer is yes, make plans to come to the second annual Beach Benefit Concert on April 24 at American Legion Post 199 in Fairhope.

Proceeds from this event will help fund the “Tears of Sorrow, Tears of Joy” sculpture monument that honors all veterans and their families, which will be placed on the bluff overlooking the Fairhope Municipal Pier when completed.

Residents are invited to grab some folding chairs, sunscreen and their kids and come to the American Legion Beach Stage, 700 S. Mobile St., beginning at 3 p.m. for fun, food and great music. The Tiki Bar will be open and serving liquid refreshments until 8 p.m. Grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage dogs, chips and soft drinks will also be available for purchase at the Tiki.

Other games with prizes will unfold as the afternoon progresses.

If you plan on taking in some Earth Day activities at the Fairhope Municipal Pier, you only have a few blocks to walk or drive down South Mobile Street to stretch your Saturday family fun at this outdoor event.

Kids can play in the sand, dance to the music and jump in the free Moonwalk that will be available on the Legion grounds. They will also have an opportunity to watch one of Fairhope’s resident artists as he paints during the festivities.

Admission is $5 and young folks 15 and under get in free.

The musical stage will be emceed by Lori DuBose, station manager for WABF-1220 AM. Relax bayside and enjoy the acoustic sounds of Sugarcane Jane from 4-8 p.m. The two halves of this duo are Alabama natives, and both Anthony Crawford and Savana Lee are accomplished musicians with a love and a deep affinity for country music.

Their sound is as pure and true as spring water. Many of their tunes have been penned by Crawford. Major artists like Lorrie Morgan, Kenny Rogers and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band have performed his songs.

A well-known musician, and sideman, Crawford has toured with Neil Young, Vince Gill, Dwight Yoakam and Steve Winwood, to name a few. Sugarcane Jane is a real crowd pleaser.

In addition to the concert, silent auction, art show and bake sale, participants can view the a display of the veterans memorial. Other military presentations are also planned.

Members of the 1165th Military Police Co., based in Fairhope, will be present. with a vehicle or two young and old alike will enjoy perusing and perhaps posing for a photograph with some of these soldiers.

Remember, no coolers may be brought into the area. The activities will move to the Legion indoor stage if it rains.
