BAY MINETTE, Alabama — The Baldwin County Commission is urging residents to discard their Christmas trees at designated sites through Jan. 9 to save landfill space and provide mulch for purchase.
Baldwin County Solid Waste director Jim Ransom said the recycling project will eliminate discarded Christmas trees from roadsides. The trees will be accepted at no charge at the Baldwin County Magnolia Sanitary Landfill, Macbride Construction and Demolition Landfill and Bay Minette Transfer Station.
The Baldwin County Solid Waste staff at these facilities will advise citizens of the unloading and placement procedure for the Christmas trees to be recycled.
The Eastfork Construction and Demolition Landfill is not in operation at this time and is not available for disposal activities or acceptance of trees or any other waste materials.
Roll-off waste containers will be place at the following locations:
Fairhope Satellite Courthouse.
Foley Satellite Courthouse.
Central Annex, Robertsdale, 22251 Palmer St.
Spanish Fort Volunteer Fire Department.
The Christmas Tree Recycling Program is an annual activity conducted by the Baldwin County Commission and allows citizens of Baldwin County to dispose of Christmas trees at no charge. Citizens are asked to utilize the locations described in the staff recommendation to dispose of Christmas trees and refrain from placing their discarded Christmas trees along the roadsides with their household garbage.
Christmas trees that are collected not only conserve valuable landfill space but also contribute material to the compost program.
Compost created from vegetative materials as well as Christmas trees is available for sale to the citizens of Baldwin County for $25 per ton.
