Lawrence H. Schmieding, born Oc6. 6, 1920 in Lincoln, Neb., died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark.

The son of August Henry and Martha Beckman Schmieding, he owned and operated Schmieding Produce.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.  He founded the Schmieding Center for Seniors. He was a member of the Springdale Country Club and the Elks Club. He was a Honorary member of the Board of Directors of ILC in New York.  He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Springdale.

Survivors include his wife Helen Schmieding of Sprinkdale, Ark.; son, Rick (Ellina) Sharpe of Springdale; daughter, Pamela (Marty) English of Springdale; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at Salem Lutheran Church in Springdale with Pastor Mark Q.L. Louderback officiating.  Burial will follow at the Bluff Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Underwood, Darin Montgomery, Lance Taylor, Larry Sipes, Kendal Douthit, John Lauber, Gary Neil and Bob Rokeby. Honorary pallbearers will be V.H. Taylor, Carl Richardson, Fred Smith, Dorman Delp, John Coan, Dean Williams, Al Partain, Gary Owens, Gene George, Sandy Boone, Walter Turnbow and Lonnie Watson.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Schmieding Center for Senior Health Education, 2422 N. Thompson Suite B, Springdale, AK 72764, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 1 Childrens Way, Little Rock, AK 72202, or Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AK 72762.
