Norma Kilmer Schneeflock, 88, a native of Madison, Neb., and a longtime resident of Foley, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2008 at Robertsdale Health Care.
She was raised by her loving aunt and father after her mother’s death when she was very young.
After college her work career began in a small office in the courthouse in Nebraska in 1940. She taught school for one year determining that career choice was not an option for her. She worked for the Corp of Engineers for a short time followed by employment at a blueprint department for the next couple of years. On Dec. 31, 1943 she was wed to teh love of her life Robert Donald Schneeflock.
She worked hard at home for the next several years with her three boys and one girl, Robert Donald, James Richard, George William and Norma Margaret.
They moved to Illinoise and she began her career of 33 years with the U.S. Postal Service, the last 27 in Foley where she later retired.
In Foley, she and her husband were well known as the owners and operators of the Otasco store located on McKenzie Street in the heart of Foley for 17 years. She worked for the Chamber of Commerce and teh Foley United Methodist Church as a secretary. Her final employment was as part of the team of Gulf Telephone where she worked for another 10 years.
She worked to serve her community and church, actively serving in the Foley United Methodist Church, Foley Boy Scouts, Foley Girls Scouts, South Baldwin Trail Riders, Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Foley Chapter 142 of the Eastern Star. The note in her Bible reads, “Please let me live so long as I have work to do and to work as long as I live.”
Survivors include two sons, Robert Schneeflock Jr. of Madison, Miss., and George Schneeflock of Summerdale; daughter, Norma “Junie” Miller of Elberta; brother, Virgil Kilmer of College Park, W.Va., sister, Vergie Johnson of Foley; seven grandchildren, Katie “Faith LaDell” Schneeflock Stone of Nashville, Tenn., Stacie Schneeflock of Jackson, Tenn., Wendie Schneeflock of Summerdale, William Schneeflock of Atmore, Heather Schneeflock of Summerdale, James Schneeflock of Summerdale, and Matthew Schneeflock of Summerdale; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriella Stone of Nashville, Tenn., and Savannah Schneeflock of Atmore.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. with funeral services at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Foley United Methodist Church. Aprivate interment will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.
