James Shriver Schnieders, 88, of Foley, a resident of Albany, Ga., for 36 years, died Friday, May 23, 2008 in Foley.

He was born Jan. 15, 1920 in Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, part of the first USAF Army Air Corp regiment to arrive and establish the Brookley Air Force Base.

He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Doris May Thomas Schnieders of Foley; two sons, James (Elizabeth) Schnieders of New Orleans and Charles (Julia) Thomas Schnieders of Liberty, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Monday, May 26 at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. Graveside services and burial followed at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.

The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Margaret’s Building Fund, 601 W. Laurel Ave., Foley, AL 36535 or to the Ruth Gotch Fund c/0 St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, 421 Edgewood Lane, Albany, GA 31707.
