SPANISH FORT, Ala. — With graduation barely two months away, it would be understandable for members of Spanish Fort High School’s Class of 2010 to be tempted to coast through the remaining quarter of their high school careers.

Angela Dunnam, 11th- and 12th-grade guidance counselor, said she sees no indication, however, of reduced momentum as hundreds of graduating seniors shift their focus to the next chapter of their academic lives.

“Our last year’s seniors (class of 2009) received $3,122,744 in scholarship money. Not too bad for only our second year (of) graduating seniors,” Dunnam said.

And although the bar has been set high, she said the opportunities for aggressive, accomplished students to pursue post-graduation funding toward college continue expanding.

“We, of course, have our first National Merit Scholarship finalist, Robert Rosati,” Dunnam said.

The high school was notified in February that Rosati is one of 15,000 National Merit semifinalists nationwide who has advanced to finalist standing. Between now and mid-June, Rosati will learn if he is one of the 8,200 finalists selected to receive a Merit Scholarship.

Of course, several other community, corporate, school-sponsored and achievement-based scholarships are available to graduating seniors, Dunnam said, and the application deadlines for many will begin expiring within the next few weeks.

The following is the most comprehensive list available of scholarship opportunities currently accessible to SFHS graduating seniors. Unless otherwise noted, applications for each is available in the Guidance Office.
