DAPHNE, Ala. — The Original Oyster House honored two Baldwin County art students with its 5th Annual Chelsea Garvin Spirit Award Scholarship Program.

This is the fifth year the restaurant has given scholarships to area students in the name of Chelsea, a former Fairhope High School art student, Fish River Fire Department Rescue Diver and Original Oyster House employee. Chelsea was killed in a boating accident in the fall of 2005.

On May 13 at the Fairhope High School Senior Night ceremony Joe and Mary Lou Roszkowski, owners of the restaurant, presented Breana Blount with one of two $1,000 scholarships.

Breana will be attending Faulkner State Community College this fall, where she will be pursuing a degree in Graphic Design after two years of school she plans to attend a four year university to obtain a doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy.

Breana is a very talented artist; she participated in the ABC projects at the Eastern Shore Art Center and has sold some of her original pieces in the community, a spokesperson said.

Also, Tracy Pierce, marketing director for the restaurant, presented Joshua Brown, a Daphne High School senior, with the other $1,000 scholarship to attend Pensacola Junior College to pursue Drawing.

Joshua created, among other things, a one-of-a-kind mural for a local church in the community, a spokesperson said.

“Congratulations to both of these talented and deserving art students; they are shining examples of what is right with Baldwin County School art programs,” a restaurant spokesperson said.
