BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Summer grows shorter each day with school registration in North Baldwin County approaching.
When that registration time is here, parents must bring a proof of residency, such as a power, water or garbage bill to the school their child will attend. According to the Baldwin County Public Schools website, when to do that will vary by school and grade.
Baldwin County High School’s registration fee is $40. Registration is 8:30 a.m.-noon Aug. 1 for seniors, Aug. 2 for juniors, Aug. 3 for sophomores and Aug. 4 for freshmen, according to the website.
Bay Minette Middle School registration fee costs $65 and may be paid half in August and half in January, according to the website. Registration is planned for 3-6 p.m. Aug. 2 for eighth grade and Aug. 3 for seventh grade. Open house will be held 6-8 p.m. Aug. 12.
Bay Minette Intermediate School has no registration fee. Registration is set for 8:30 a.m.-noon July 26 for sixth grade, Wednesday for fifth grade and Thursday for fourth grade, according to the website. According to School Registrar Monica Jones, a loss of records due to the school’s change computer systems means all students are required to register.
“Meet the Teacher” will be held 2-4 p.m. Aug. 11 at the school.
Perdido School registration fee is $40, according to the website. Registration will be 12-6 p.m. Thursday. “Meet the Teacher” is set for 4-6 p.m. Aug. 11.
Bay Minette Elementary doesn't hold registration, according to Principal T. Scott Langham, as each grade “rolls over.”
“Meet the Teacher” will be held 2-4 p.m. Aug. 11.
“Parents can come to campus, meet the teacher, get a lot of information and update (file) information,” he said during a telephone interview.
Additional items may also be purchased at the time of registration and are specific to each school.
The high school offers student-parking passes for $40. Drivers must bring their license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance.
Bay Minette Middle School will sell school shirts for $10 for T-shirts and $12 for polos. They may be worn any day of the week with uniform pants.
Other items that may be available for purchase at registration are physical-education uniforms and yearbooks.
While student and parents can expect to learn about teachers, classes and schedules, they may also have a chance to socialize with old friends and make new ones. Bay Minette Middle School Assistant Principal Sonny Eilert said that registration is bustling, yet fun at the same time.
“There’s a general excitement,” he said in a telephone interview. “The teachers are excited to see the kids that were here last year and to meet new sixth-graders. The kids are excited to be back and to see each other. New students are ready to see the school and where their classes will be.”
Eilert explained that registration is also a time of anticipation.
“The difference between elementary and intermediate and then middle school is that there are so many different activities, electives and choices,” he said. “There are so many opportunities for choices, every year it goes up like that. It’s different sports or activities to participate in or just watch and our incoming kids haven’t experienced that before.”
