ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Zachery Schwartz has been selected as the 2011-2012 Red Ribbon Leadership award winner for South Baldwin Center for Technology. As part of his responsibilities, Schwartz has to create, develop and implement activities for encouraging classmates to live a drug free lifestyle. Several activities are planned for the month of October.
One event was the design and implementation of “Wonder Dog” which is being used to collect money for the Baldwin County Sherriff’s “Pennies for Puppies” campaign. The Sherriff’s department is trying to raise enough money to purchase additional canine units to help with the fight against drugs. Schwartz and his classmates in Mike Baswell’s welding program at South Baldwin Center for Technology built the dog using their welding skills. The dog is then used each day at break to roll around collecting money for the program.
