DAPHNE — Supporting educational enrichment in Daphne’s Schools has awarded local educators with 22 competitive classroom-enrichment grants totaling $28,500.

Each school that applied — Daphne Elementary, W.J. Carroll Intermediate, Daphne High School, Daphne East Elementary, Daphne Middle School and Christ the King Catholic School — received a block grant worth $3,000.

Principals can use the money for whatever they think will impact students the most, D’Oliveira said.

“Principals are looking for ways to integrate technology into the classroom,” Denise D’Oliveira, SEEDS communications coordinator, said.

A few principals hope to use programs like Promethean Interactive, which allows teachers to project work onto a classroom wall with the use of a laptop, D’Oliveira said.

SEEDS began the grant program in 2005, awarding $6,000 in grants. In 2006, they awarded $13,500 in grant, according to Dealy.

State Rep. Randy Davis contributed $4,500 through the Davis community service grant, which allowed every teacher to receive a grant, Dealy said.
