DAPHNE, Ala. — Registration is open for Supporting Educational Enrichment in Daphne’s Schools’ 7th Annual Classic Rock 5K and fun run fundraiser.

The 5K will start at 8 a.m. March 5 and the 1-mile fun run will begin at 9 a.m. at Daphne City Hall on Main Street. The mostly flat circuit course will wind through Olde Towne Daphne.

Registration forms are available at area fitness centers and at Daphne City Hall until March 3. Participants can register online until midnight March 2. Prospective 5K runners can also register the day of the race from 7 to 7:45 a.m.; fun-run participants can register from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at City Hall. Registration fees are $20 for the 5K and $10 for the fun run.

Awards will be given to the top male and female overall, masters, grandmasters, senior grandmasters and walkers. Medals will be awarded for the top male and female runners in each age group.

For the race, limited parking will be available at City Hall. Additional parking will be available at Daphne Elementary School, W.J. Carroll Intermediate School and Bryant Bank.

T-shirts for the race are available in limited quantities; there will also be two live classic rock bands entertaining crowds throughout the races.

In celebration of Mardi Gras, there will also be a Mardi Gras costume contest and everyone is encouraged to dress up. The contest winner will receive a $25 cash prize.

SEEDS volunteers will serve grilled hamburgers and hot dogs to raise more funds and there will be Mardi Gras-themed activities to keep children occupied during the event.

SEEDS is a local education foundation, which has provided more than $147,000 since 2005 for improvements in Daphne schools.

Last year’s run attracted more than 1,000 participants.
