SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Looking to find a way to examine daily challenges and find ways to overcome them?
Motivational speaker Drexel Gilbert’s six-week Bible study beginning Sept. 3 at Providence United Methodist Church in Spanish Fort may hold the answers.
Gilbert’s new inspirational DVD, “Anchored: Reflections from a Reporter’s Notebook” is the basis of the Bible study. The DVD features journal lessons and short video stories made to help busy Christians explore their faith.
With more than 25 years in the TV industry, her faith led her into the study and how participants can overcome and examine daily challenges, such as work-related stress, and learn how to live a more positive, spiritually powerful life, Gilbert said.
“This is the time for looking inside ourselves and growing inside our faith because we just don’t have time these days,” Gilbert said.
She will pick an entry from the DVD and will revolve the Bible study around that, she said.
“I’ve gone and taken a spiritual approach to dealing with all these issues,” Gilbert said. “It’s a no-excuses Bible study.”
The midweek Wednesday service includes children’s activities, children’s choir practice, a family fellowship meal, youth “reCharge” study, an adult study and adult choir practice.
“Anchored” comprises 31 short entries, each about three minutes in length. Entries begin with a “today’s truth,” which is a motivational saying to help listeners/watchers get through the day, Gilbert said.
Each of the 31 entries has something to do with her time in TV news, people and situations. The DVD also includes an audio CD for easy-listening in the car, she said.
“A situation would come up at work on my mind and I would write a short story about it,” Gilbert said. “After I left TV everything came into focus. I had been writing these for the next step in my career journey.”
Dinner will be served prior to the study from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the church. Dinners are $6 per person or $20 per family of four or more. Reservations should be made the Monday prior to the event by calling 251-929-2832 or e-mail delaineseamon@bellsouth.net.
Providence United Methodist Church is located off U.S. Highway 31 at 9543 Stagecoach Road.
Gilbert will also have a book signing at Crossroads Books and Gifts in Mobile from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., this Saturday. She will also give a presentation titled “It Starts with Your Heart! 5 Steps to Polishing Your Image from the Inside Out!”
Crossroads is located at the corner of Hillcrest Road and Grelot Road.
The signing and presentation are free of charge.
