Seminole meth lab found

SEMINOLE, Ala. — For the second time, investigators are looking into a report of a methamphetamine lab on Mitchell Lane in Seminole.

Around 10 p.m. Nov. 18, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for medical assistance at 32991 Mitchell Lane.

According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, Tony Lee Mitchell was taken by ambulance to Robertsdale and then flown to The University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile with second and third degree burns. Firefighters were able to bring a fire at Mitchell’s residence under control. According to a representative of USA Medical Center, Mitchell was in “serious” condition as of Friday morning.

A search at the scene found “numerous bottles, hoses, jars, cooking devices, camp fuel, lithium batteries, drain cleaner, and fertilizer. Investigators also located a sawed-off shotgun and a .22 rifle,” according to the press release. The release also added the field tests of a liquid found at the scene tested positive for methamphetamine. Meth residue was also said to be found in hoses on the property.

Less than six months ago, deputies were also called to the property on a similar call. Mitchell went to Baptist Hospital, and then to USA Medical Center for the treatment of burns, but the release says the fire at the mobile home destroyed any evidence.

According to the release, “Mitchell has not yet been charged with any crime and the investigation is ongoing. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office would expect numerous charges to be forthcoming.”
