Senate District 22 vote is Tuesday

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Voters in designated areas of Baldwin County will head to the polls Tuesday for a special general election to replace Pat Lindsey, D- Butler, who died in January.

The two-candidate election pits Greg Albritton, R-Range, against Marc Keahey, D-Grove Hill.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Precinct voter data packs will be transported to the Baldwin County Administration Building in Bay Minette for tallying. Results will be available on the Web as they are tallied, Johns said. To view results, go to co.baldwin.al.us, click on Probate and follow the prompts.

Albritton received about 57 percent of the votes in April’s Republican Primary in defeating Mobile business owner Judy Belk and Danny Joyner, a Brewton native and former lieutenant of the Brewton Police Department.

About 300 of the 15,000 registered voters cast ballots in the primary, according to Baldwin County Probate Judge Adrian Johns.

Senate District 22 encompasses all or part of Baldwin, Mobile, Escambia, Conecuh, Monroe, Clark, Choctaw and Washington counties. There are 15 Baldwin County precincts wholly or in part in Senate District 22, and eight precincts are split.

“There have been lots of ads in the race and I hope the turnout is better,” Johns said Friday. “The biggest thing the public needs to be aware of is that that there are split precincts. Voters should look at their voter registration card to make sure they are eligible to vote.”

Lindsey, 72, of Butler was found dead in his bed while on a hunting trip with State Sen. Roger Bedford, Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr. and others.
