DAPHNE, Ala.—Catherine Place, a Mercy Medical assisted living community, recently hosted a Royal Wedding Hat Show where residents were treated like royalty. High tea accompanied by petit fours and a majestic table setting set the mood for a viewing of the Royal Wedding on a large screen. This event wouldn’t have been complete without the residential fashion police reviewing the variety of stylish, eye-catching and eccentric hats.
“That hat looks like a bird caught inside a ball of feathers,” called someone from the crowd. “The hats are back in style,” stated Myrna Kinsey. “I had a fur hat similar to that and the shoes look very familiar.”
Just like history, fashion often repeats itself and the wedding showed the glamour of the 1930s and 1940s with the sophistication of a regal wedding. Mendi Niblett, Catherine Place recreation program coordinator, and Ashley Raia, Catherine Place assisted activity coordinator, worked cohesively in preparing this fun tribute to Prince William and Kate Middleton, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The high tea was an opportunity for the senior residents to turn out in their millinery finest and celebrate the jubilant occasion.
