BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The first week of October was like the beginning of Fall. You notice the leaves are beginning to fall but not much change in color. Kind of a slow start.
Bay Minette Area Senior Citizens Organization met at 3 p.m. Oct. 2. Herb Waters, the president was absent. Anne Knight, vice-president, conducted the meeting. The Nominating Committee gave their nominees for next year, but, Anne Knight stated that election would not be held until the Nov. 6 meeting.
There was also a motion made and approved to change the meeting time from 5 p.m. to 3 p.m. for the rest of the year.
Movie-of-the-month is “Mixed Nuts” with Steve Martin. Refreshments will be finger foods and Sandy Sakwa volunteered to bring the birthday cake.
November Pot Luck entertainment will be Laura Aaron.
Gametime, Thursday, Oct. 4, was highlight of the week. However, Mondays (computer and exercise), Wednesdays (computer and exercise) and Fridays (Art Class from 9 a.m. til noon; Bridge at 1 p.m. and exercise at 3 p.m.) are also very busy.
Don’t forget to stop by and pick up your October calendar and join in the fun.
Although the month started off slow, the week of Oct. 8 was busy, beginning Monday, Oct. 8 with computer class at 11 a.m.; Flip/Flop Book Club meeting at 1 p.m.; with brownbaggers at 12:30 p.m.; and exercise at 3 p.m. (still working on instructor for our class).
More about Flip/Flop Book Club next week. Surprise guest to be at the meeting. Also, will let you know Book-of-the month for November, so you can read along with us.
Also, Pot Luck, Wednesday, Oct. 10 at noon, following computer class at 11 a.m. More about Pot Luck next week. Bingo follows. We end the week with gametime on Thursday afternoon and a full day (Art Class, Bridge lesson and Exercise) on Friday.
Also don’t forget Senior Group will leave First Baptist Church Friday, Oct. 12 at 8 a.m. for Selma for a fun-filled day. What in itinerary. And we will be ready to catch our breath the next week.
Hope you shared in some of what’s happening with Seniors this week. Ruth Howell is coordinating all senior trips with the First Baptist Church and she said the Gaither trip to Mobile Civic Center Nov. 29, may have an opening but the Christmas trip to Lafayette, La., Dec. 10, 11 and 12 has completely filled up. However, she has plans through July 2008. And possibly a couple of surprises left for this year. So keep posted. Sign up early at the First Baptist Church office.
This past week on Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. the NBI Auxiliary held their Festive Fall Luncheon at the Church of Christ. Volunteers were so excited from decorating through the luncheon. Everything was so festive and of course, thanks to Shirley, the food was extra special.
The First Baptist Senior Choir entertained us (Jamie Tillery, choir director?). Must have been a mix up but Jamie has a way of turning things around making it fun. Saw a note of approval from Bill Carr. The luncheon was well attended and enjoyed by all. The Auxiliary is most generous in their time at the hospital and other community projects. Thanks Jamie for making it fun and special. Also, it was reported that Auxiliary Bake Sale at NBI Wellness Center, Oct. 1 went really well. Also, blood drive exceeded their goal! Thanks, Bay Minette for being so supportive of community projects! Thanks seniors for being a part also.
Come and be a part of what’s happening at the Bay Minette Senior Center for Seniors! Know you are active in your Church and your Church provides senior activities for you, but come and visit with other seniors who you may not see as often but who you either worked with or your children grew up together. Share what’s happening in your family with others. Catch up on those you don’t see as often. Bring your card group to the Senior Center. Let’s bring our seniors together. Look around you when you shop, there are plenty of us. Take a few hours out of your week to be a part of a senior activity. You choose and make us happy that you did.
Thought for the week: Yes’m, old friends are best, ‘less you can catch a new one that’s fit to make an old one out of.
— Sarah Orne Jewett.
May God bless you and keep you until we meet again!!!
