GULF SHORES, AL – Services have been announced for Gulf Shores High graduate Nathan Harris who was killed in a motorcycle accident on April 30.

A memorial service will be at Gulf Shores First Baptist Church on Thursday, May 5. There will be a visitation from 1-3 p.m. on the same day at the church.

There has been an outpouring of community reaction in the wake of Harris' death from Gulf Shores Fire and Rescue using his football number as a profile picture on Facebook and posting a video of him playing football to The Wharf in Orange Beach lighting palm trees in school colors.

"Join us as we honor this outstanding young man and the legacy he left on our community," a release from The Wharf said.

Principal Ernie Rosado said supporters are also planning a community event set tentatively for May 13 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium, site of Dolphin home football games, at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

Gulf Shores Police say that Harris, 19, was killed in a two-vehicle crash about 8:30 a.m. on April 30 on Fort Morgan Road. Harris, a 2015 Gulf Shores High School graduate and a former football quarterback and baseball player at the school, was returning from a workout when the accident occurred, school officials said.

After leaving Gulf Shores Harris went to become a walk on for the Troy University football team and earned a spot as the holder on field goals and extra points.

Prior to coming to Troy, Harris was the starting quarterback at Gulf Shores High School from 2012-14 for Coach Ben Blackmon.

He was already making an impact at Troy, Coach Neal Brown said.

"Nate was a tremendous person and a very caring young man," Brown said. "While his time here at Troy University was brief, his impact was felt by many. He was loved by his teammates and had a positive effect on our team's culture in a short time."
