A staff of seven with a combined experience of 100 years makes Glow Salon go. Darlene Wilson, proprietor, is proud of her staff, her customers and her location. “We’re a half mile north of the Old Time Pottery place on Hwy. 59. You can’t miss us at this little plaza.” One customer who bashfully wished her name to be withheld said, “I love this salon and no matter where they move, I’ll find them.” For you navigators, the address is 8388 Highway 59 South.

Four of the seven wonders of beauty are Baldwin County through and through and three have learned and practiced their art in Tuscaloosa, Orlando and New Orleans respectively. Each has a specialty but all are experienced with color application, color correction and fashion highlighting. Brenda practices “hair extensions” and Andrea does facials under the title of “aesthetician.”

Wilson says that their prices are competitive and they’re especially attentive to senior citizens. They are made to feel “at home away from home.” While the economy is down, Wilson wants to do extra and charge less to make people feel better. “We want to be a part of the community as well as the economy.”

Wilson says that the staff keeps up technically with the salon world and also keeps informed about styles and preferences in magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Gentlemen’s Quarterly and Southern Living.

The plaza has a recent remodeling and re-facing so Glow Salon is holding a grand reopening Friday, 13 June all day until 8:00 p.m. There will be prizes and treats. The Salon will give complimentary consultations.
