S.F. Elementary nets $7k to benefit its PTA

SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Spanish Fort’s fall festivities continued Saturday at Spanish Fort Elementary’s annual Fall Festival.

Attendees got to participate in games such as the cake walk; pin the ring on the Toro; a Coca-Cola ring toss; fish for a surprise; a Fear Factor tent; car smash; speed-tester with a laser gun lent by the Spanish Fort Police Department; inflatable   obstacle courses; and pop the balloon for a chance to win prizes and candy, among many other activities.

“Smashing the car” was what 6-year-old Cody Gunter said when asked what was his favorite part of the fall festival.

Cake walkers got to walk the walk for doughnuts; more than 100 dozen doughnuts were won along with cakes and cupcakes.

“I think the kids and the adults both loved this one,” Shannon Cauley, PTA vice president, said of the cake walk. “We got rid of everything.”

Nearly 1,200 cans of silly string were purchased with tickets and kids ran around spraying each other. Cauley said this was probably the most popular booth, along with the colored hairspray booth.

“We’re just here having a Mommy-and-Emma day,” Paula Graf said after she walked 3-year-old Emma Kate on the pony ride.

Many younger attendees said their favorite part of the festival was the colored hairspray booth.

Festival goers walked around with multicolored hair, so the popular booth was pretty obvious.

While many ate hamburgers, hotdogs and chicken fingers sponsored by the fourth grade, they had the chance to watch participants on the field dance with Spanish Fort Middle School cheerleaders to songs played with favorites such as “The Cupid Shuffle” by Cupid and the “Chicken Dance.”

Vendors were on hand to sell hair ribbons and embroidered items, toy cars and purses.

Nine-year-old Zöe (dots) Robinson said her favorite part of the day was hanging out with her friends and trying to win doughnuts at the cake walk.

“It was definitely a successful day,” Cauley said. “We had great parents who helped us out.”

The PTA earned a $7,000 profit from the festival, which they hope to use for a new playground at the school, Cauley said.

“That’s our big goal: … a bigger, up to date playground,” Cauley said.

The PTA also plans to use proceeds toward teacher grants, improved parking at the school and beautification.

“We’ve got a lot of ideas,” Cauley said.
