SPANISH FORT, Ala. — School officials announced today that Spanish Fort High School has become the first school in Baldwin County approved to start a chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, formerly known as the Spanish National Honor Society. This is a national honor society whose purpose is to recognize high school student achievement in Spanish and Portuguese, and to promote a continuity of interest in Hispanic Studies, a news release said.
Membership in the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica requires a grade of A in Spanish I and II, as well as currently enrolled in Spanish III or planning to take Spanish III the following semester; have a good discipline record; be able to attend monthly meetings and perform school and community service projects.
Marko Sebastiani is the chapter sponsor at SFHS. He said that the Honor Society will be a source of scholarships, cash and travel awards, as well as a way for students to be recognized for distinguishing themselves in the pursuit of excellence in Spanish and its vibrant culture.
