SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Spanish Fort High School junior Lillie Leonard was recently selected to represent Baldwin EMC in Montgomery and Washington, D.C. this spring as part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Youth Tour program.

Leonard was one of six students selected for the trip from among more than 50 total applicants.

Leonard and the other winners were selected based on a detailed application process and an interview by an independent panel of judges.

The Montgomery Youth Tour includes a three-day trip to Montgomery, where participants have the opportunity to interact with state legislators and cooperative representatives, and visit several important historical locations.

The Washington, D.C. Youth Tour is a week-long trip to the nation’s capitol. Participants will have the chance to visit with senators and representatives from Baldwin County’s congressional districts and explore the city’s historical sites.

The tour is made up of more than 1,300 high school juniors from throughout the United States.

The Youth Tour participants and their adult chaperones will depart for Montgomery on March 4. The Washington Youth Tour begins on June 16.

Baldwin EMC is a member-owned electric cooperative serving more than 65,000 meters in Baldwin and Monroe counties in southwest Alabama, including Alabama’s Gulf Coast.
