SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Two Spanish Fort High School students have scored in the top 4 percent on the National Spanish Exam, marking the third consecutive year the school has placed students in the top tier of the competition.
Barbara Harle and Lydia Moore earned gold certificates, while 19 of their classmates earned silver, bronze and premio honors. Of the 122,000 students nationwide who took the exam, 29 Spanish Fort students were among 1,600 Alabama students participating.
In level 1, Mariah King won silver, while Blythe Stovall, Corinne Howard, Cailin Ulmer and Trevor Stevens brought home bronze. Shelby Robinson, Ramy Bolis, Alli Smith, Joshua Spell, Kayla Travis and Kristi Reckart were premio winners.
At level 2, Kaleigh Myers won bronze, while Jamie Stauter, Lauris Orem, Emily Smith, Wes Ellison, Rachel Joiner and Bailey Ulmer won premio certificates.
In the level 2 bilingual category Andrea Soars-Marquez earned a premio certificate, and Carlos Cadogan won a premio certificate in the level 3 bilingual category.
Spanish teacher Marko Sebastiani is Spanish Fort’s National Spanish Honor Society, or Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica sponsor.
