SPANISH FORT, Ala.—At Spanish Fort Middle School yesterday, where there's smoke, there was no fire.

A malfunctioning transformer at the school on Wednesday was to blame for smoke near the school's elevator, which caused students to be evacuated from the school for about 30 minutes.

There was no fire, only smoke, according to a Baldwin County Board of Education news release.

Students attended classes the rest of the school day afternoon as normal, the release said.
