Helen Hodgson Shannon, 82, of Birmingham, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born July 28, 1925 in Bay Minette, but spent most of her adult life in Birmingham. She attended Huntingdon College, graduated from the University of Alabama in 1947 and was a member of the Alfpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
She worked as a nutritionist with the Birmingham School System and the Dairy Council of Alabama. She was a member and Elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Birmingham.
She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph L. Shannon; brother, Robert (Doris) Hodgson of Bay Minette; daughter, Lauren (William Dan) Price of Martinsville, Va.; two sons, J. Lewis (Nancy) Shannon Jr. of Birmingham and J. Malcom (Sharon) Shannon of Ocean Springs, Miss.; and seven grandchildren, William D. Prince IV, Mary Helen and Grace Prince, Joseph L. Shannon III, Kelly Shannon, Sean and Christian Shannon.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with the Rev. Don Rose officiating.
