Thank you for your great article by Mike Odom about Ms. Lucy Eisenhower on April 3, 2008.

I write to you as a young Republican (only 59). I am a personal friend of Ms. Lucy’s since her Houston days, and we keep in touch from time to time.

I think this woman is a national treasure and is truly a living piece of history, one of the few we have left. Her past and present life shows that she is one of America’s last remaining Grande Dames of this political century.

Ms. Lucy is by no means “old” by anyone’s standards. Her continued involvement in public political awareness, philanthropy and active community service is a testimony to her incredible personal strength, stamina and dedication to the principles of our nation.

Balwin County is very lucky to count her as a resident, and it was our sad loss when she left us for you.

Ms. Lucy has, is and continues to be an inspiration to me personally, and for the many, many friends and admirers (both Republicans and Democarts) she has in Houston and all over the world. We here in Houston are all so very proud of her, and to be touched by her indominitable spirit.

Ms. Lucy has an incredible ability to make people feel at ease. To be entertained in Ms. Lucy’s home is something special. Her style makes Letia Baldwin write to ask for advice on style and grace.

She has a genuine interest in other people, and a passion for life and for America.

For someone who has lived over most of this century, she has seen and known most presidents (and first ladies) come and go, yet, by her choice has always chosen to maintain a low profile away from the spotlight, prefering to be on the “front lines” among the rank and file where she could be so effective.

Keep a close eye on Ms. Lucy, she ain’t thru yet!! What a wonderful “gal.”
