Shirley Jean (Klingel) Eccles, 87, beloved mother, wife, sister and grandmother, born in Lincoln, Neb., died peacefully in her sleep on March 19, 2014.

Shirley will be missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Hazel Klingel; brother and sister; and her adoring husband, Richard P. Eccles, who died March 5, 2012.

Shirley was married to her faithful husband for 63 years. They cherished each other deeply.

Shirley is survived by four children and five grandchildren, Linda Eccles Lee (husband, Joe and son, Nickolas), twins-Todd Richard Eccles (daughter Katie and son Christopher) and Pamela Lee Fake (husband Mac and son Ian) and Jane Eileen Leonard (husband John and daughter Lillie Jean).

Shirley loved music of all kinds, especially the Sweet Adelines. When she and Dick lived in Midland, Mich., she was very involved in chorus and quartet. She achieved a moment of stardom when she sang with her quartet “The Merri-Mrs.” in Carnegie Hall, New York City.

Shirley and Dick retired in Gulf Breeze, Fla., and for more than 25 years enjoyed the area. She stayed active by playing bridge and volunteering in her community.

Some of her favorite clubs were Gulf Coast Friends, Gulf Isle Neighbors, Pensacola Museum of Art Guild and Pensacola Symphony Guild, in all of which she held officer positions.

Shirley’s life should be celebrated. She was the most gentle, patient, loving woman and she lived her life in a very unselfish way.

She maintained such a positive outlook, and was an inspiration to those who knew her.

Shirley had many special caregivers. The family would like to thank each of them and express their gratitude.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Westminster Village Foundation, 500 Spanish Fort Blvd., Spanish Fort, AL 36527.

A private service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, where both their remains will be placed in honor.
