DAPHNE, Ala.—City leaders have announced a dedication ceremony for a new sidewalk near Daphne Middle School. The event is set for April 29 at 12 p.m.
The sidewalk, which runs from Daphne Middle School toward County Road 64, was funded by a “Safe Routes to School” grant from the Alabama Department of Transportation, city clerk David Cohen said.
The sidewalk will be dedicated in honor of the effort community leaders put into getting the grant as well as a celebration of the completion of the project.
Cohen said Mayor Fred Small will speak at the event, along with the Daphne Middle School principal and representatives from the Baldwin County Trailblazers. Members of the city council may speak as well.
“The Trailblazers were instrumental in applying for the grant. The event is a pat on the back to the Trailblazers for their efforts,” Cohen said.
“It is also a good thing for the city to recognize that the sidewalks have been completed.”
The dedication is open to the public, Cohen said.
