Sidney Roger Pope

Sidney Roger Pope passed away June 22, 2016 at the age of 80. He was born, Feb. 23, 1936 to Joseph and Ollie (Banks) Pope.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran who served his country proudly. Sidney married Sandra Hardin on April 12, 1985.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Sandra of Lewisville, Texas; sons, Denny and Danny Pope of Denton, Texas; grandchildren, Wesley, Taylor, Morgan, McKenzie, Gabrielle, Rylee, Brianna and Natalie; sisters, Mary Mixon-Pope, Eloise Banks-Pope and Bernice Beck-Pope; numerous nieces and nephews.

He graduated Robertsdale High School in Alabama, and entered Marine basic training in 1954. He qualified as a field artillery forward observer in the Marines, and completed his service in 1958, achieving rank of sergeant.

He graduated Auburn University with a bachelor of aeronautical administration in 1962.

He soon started work at LTV Aerospace in Engineering Planning as an aeronautical engineer. Sidney soon took an interest in computer programming and, while working at General Dynamics, two years of night classes, embarked on a 32-year career in programing.

He chose to remain actively employed, even after retirement, as a special needs school bus driver.

Sidney will be interred with military honors at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery July 8, 2016 at 11 a.m.
