Sight Savers America awarded grant to support eye care for preschoolers

Posted

Forty preschool children in South Alabama will receive comprehensive eye care through a new grant awarded to Sight Savers America by the Tri-City Community Foundation, an affiliate of The Community Foundation of South Alabama.

The funding will cover eye exams, glasses and prescribed treatments, helping to identify and correct vision problems in children at a critical developmental stage.

"The Tri-City Community Foundation is proud to invest in the efforts of organizations like Sight Savers America that make a lasting difference in our community," said Ed Douglas, chair of the Tri-City Advisory Committee.

Sight Savers America Chief Program Officer Jennifer Haddox said early eye care is essential for children's success in school and beyond.

"Pre-K children are especially vulnerable to undetected vision issues and are at a critical stage for early intervention. Timely treatment of eye conditions can prevent irreversible damage and provide these young learners with the tools they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Correcting vision problems can also foster independence and boost self-esteem. We are deeply grateful to the Tri-City Community Foundation for their generous support in helping young children across South Alabama," Haddox said.

Sight Savers America, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), works to identify and secure treatment for unmet vision and health needs. Each year, the organization provides eye care services to more than 100,000 children across 16 states.
