SILVERHILL, Alabama --- Doug Parker of Saraland took home the Best of Show prize for his 1948 Studebaker Pick-up at the 2012 Silverhill Car Show Saturday.
Event coordinator Frankie Kucera said there were 194 cars registered for the event with several more that did not register, putting the final count at well over 200 cars.
“That’s a record for us,” he said, adding that while he does not have a final tally of money raised, it will easily top $5,000.
Roger Pugh of Semmes took home the prize for the People’s Choice award. Additional awards were presented for the Top 40 vehicles, plus awards were presented for the best representative of a particular era and various makes and models.
Proceeds from this year’s event benefitted efforts to save the Little Bohemian Hall, which was damaged by a tornado in April of 2011.
A memorial service kicked off the event at 10 a.m. with prayer by Wayne Doubrava. The National Anthem was sung by Steven Grant.
A flag was presented to Boy Scout Troop 42 of Silverhill by Tech Sgt. Steve Atkins of Leitchfield, Ky. The flag flown during the day was one that had flown over Iraq on a mission and was raised in honor and memory of all the fallen heroes and the fallen heroes of the Iraq and Afghan wars.

* Best Mopar: Ron Harris of Elberta, 1970 Dodge Challenger.
* Best Independent: G.W. Ford of Atmore, 1941 Willys Coupe.
* Best Foreign Import (4-cylinder): Stuart Waddington of Daphne, 1977 MG Model 13.
* Best Foreign Import (6-8-12 cylinder): Michael Giles of Silverhill, 2007 Porsche.
* Best Street Rod: David Lindell of Loxley, 1930 Ford Model-A Roadster.
* Best Truck: Buster Pierce of Wilmer, 1971 Chevy G10 Pickup.
* Best Pro Street: Billy Crocker of Pascagoula, Miss., 1956 Chevy Sedan.
* Best Antique: Carl Bailey of Robertsdale, 1931 Ford Model A Sedan.
* Best Cobra: Doug Byrd of Robertsdale, 1965 Ford Cobra.
* Best Camaro: Dennis Randall of Fairhope, 1967 Chevy Camaro.
* Best Corvette: Pete Duncan of Foley, 1999 Chevy Corvette.
* Best Mustang: Gene Looney of Mobile, 2006 Ford Mustang.
* Best Rat Rod: Brian Boyle of Pensacola, Fla., 1935 Chevy Truck.
* Best T-Bucket: Charles LaCoste of Robertsdale, 1920 Ford T.
* Best under construction: Kim Coker of Silverhill, 1949 Chevy Suburban.
* Best of the 2000s: Steve Atkins of Leitchfield, Ky., 2012 Dodge Challenger.
* Best of the 90s: Roy Morton of Foley, 1990 Ford Mustang.
* Best of the 80s: Matt Baugh of Satsuma, 1981 Chevy C-10 Pickup.
