SILVERHILL, Ala. — The Silverhill Town Council breezed through a light agenda Monday night at Silverhill Town Hall.
The only item not voted on unanimously during Monday’s meeting was a measure to renew the town’s grinder pump warranty with the Baldwin County Sewer System.
The five-year extended warranty covers the system currently being used at Town Hall. Concil members Bert Jones and Rodney Criswell voted against the measure. Shirley Stephens, Steve Brooks, Jared Lyles and Mayor Tim Wilson voted for the measure, which passed 4-2. All council members were present at Monday’s meeting.
In the only item voted on under old business, the council approved a measure to purchase a 14 by 11-inch plaque to honor Elsie Chandler at a cost of $100.
The measure was first brought up at the council’s July 6 meeting as a way to honor Chandler with a plaque at People’s Supply Building.
Chandler, who died June 14 at age 99, ran the local landmark with her husband and served as the town’s librarian for over 30 years. A plaque honoring Chandler has been in place at the library for several years.
The council at its July 20 meeting to purchase an 18 by 18-inch plaque costing $150, but because the smaller size is available for purchase now (the larger plaque would have to be cut, causing a delay in delivery) and is less expensive, the council decided to go with the smaller plaque instead.
In other business Monday, the council:
— Voted to close a Katrina well grant account with funds in the amount of $3,222.03.
— Voted to open a bank checking accopunt for the town’s sidewalk grant project.
— Voted to deposit $3,222.03 into the sidewalk grant project account.
— Denied a request to purchase a back-to-school advertisement for WHEP radio.
— Voted to deny the purchase 2010 planners at a cost of $11.99 each.
— Voted to write off bad debts totalling $395.11.
— Voted to deny purchase of an advertisement in the Baldwin County Fair publication.
