SILVERHILL, Ala. — The Silverhill Town Council met Tuesday, Jan. 18 at town hall.
Much of Tuesday’s meeting was taken up with the purchase of an all-in-one machine for Town Hall.
The machine, which is capable of copying, faxing and scanning, will primarily be used by the Police Department. The town’s Utilities Department will also be able to use the machine.
Representatives from Accurate Control addressed concerns at Tuesday’s meeting, including the issue of cost. The machine will utlimately cost the town in excess of $6,000.
Another issue addressed was the issue of confidentiality when dealing with police records. Accurate Control representatives said the machine could be programmed only to print when a code is entered, thus only the person printing a fax or print document could see the item being printed.
In the end, Chad Wilkins with Accurate Control told council members that the new copy machine would cost less than the town is currently paying for its service contract.
Wilkins pointed out that under the town’s current contract it was paying a minimum of over $200 a month for paper and toner for the machine.
After consulting with his boss, Wilkins offered a lease to purchase agreement for the town, which would cost only $190.50 per month, and includes service and maintenance, as well as supplies for the machine.
Under the terms of the contract, the town will own the machine at the end of the 39-month lease and could decide to upgrade or keep the machine at the end of the contract.
The council voted unanimously to approve the lease purchase agreement with all council members present at Tuesday’s meeting.
The council also voted unanimously to approve Resolution 424 to establish a $350,000 line of credit with Vision Bank of Robertsdale in compliance with a sidewalk grant which has been approved for the town by the Alabama Department of Transportation.
While the grant funds 100 percent of construction of sidewalks in town, the line of credit had to be established to make purchases for supplies during the four- to six-week period while the town is waiting for funds to go through.
There will be a $300 documentation fee. The town will also be responsible for the 4.95 percent interest that is incurred during that time.
The council also voted Tuesday to:
— Approve an off-premise license to sell wine and beer at Silverhill Food Mart, formerly known as The Station in Silverhill. The license will be issued by the state ABC Board, but must have the council’s approval before a license is issued.
— Voted 3-2 to help sponsor a golf tounament to raise funds for the Robertsdale High School Golden Bear marching band. Mayor Tim Wilson brought the proposal to the council on behalf of the band, saying that all municipalities in the area are being approached about title sponsorship. The City of Robertsdale has already approved a $1,000 donation, Wilson said with the other towns asked to contribute $250. Bert Jones and Rodney Criswell voted against the measure. Wilson abstained from voting.
— Approved a dispatch agreement with Loxley.
— Announced that the CPR/AED training class scheduled for Feb. 1 at the Silverhill Volunteer Fire Department is full, but that the Department is planning to hold classes once a month.
