SILVERHILL, Alabama — The Town of Silverhill showed their appreciation for a longtime Council member while welcoming another at its Council meeting on Monday.
Ken Raines, the town’s municipal court judge, conducted a swearing in ceremony for Council members on Monday, including new Council member Michael Allegri Jr., who ran unopposed in the Sept. 11 election to fill the slot vacated by longtime member Steve Brooks.
Mayor Tim Wilson presented Brooks with a plaque in appreciation for his service to the town. State Rep. Joe Faust was also on hand at Monday’s meeting and presented Brooks with a state proclamation for his service on the Town Council and to the community.
Incumbents Bert Jones, Jared Lyles and Wayne Gruenloh also prevailed in the Sept. 11 election. Wilson and Council member Shirley Stephens were re-elected unopposed in September.
Wilson conducted the swearing in ceremony for Raines, who was reappointed as the town’s municipal court judge.
The Council also voted unanimously to make appointments and set standard operating procedure for the coming term, including:
• Reappointed Patricia Bankester as town clerk and treasurer.
• Reappointed Jared Lyles as the town’s mayor pro-tem. Lyles abstained from voting on the matter.
• Voted to continue Town Council meetings on the first and third Mondays of every month.
• Voted to continue with rules adopted under Ordinance 307-10-1996.
• Voted to continue duties for all city employees and department heads.
• Voted to adopt Resolution No. 483-11-05-2012 continuing with all current bank depositories held by the town and directing the town clerk-treasurer to deposit municipal funds into the depositories.
In other business on Monday, the Council:
• Voted to adopt Resolution 484-11-05-2012, approving the purchase of a 2013 Ford Pursuit SUV for a police patrol car, approving a 4.0 percent interest rate for six years or 72 months with Vision Bank at a monthly rate of $564, plus a $115 loan documentation fee. The town budgeted $600 per month for the expense.
• Adopted Ordinance No. 404-11-5-2012 amending Ordinance No. 376 Part “C” of the business license issuance fee, increasing the license fees from $10 to $12.
• Received a check for $500 from the Little Miss Heritage Day Pageant.
• Announced that there will be a ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. Nov. 14 for the new Silverhill Community Center. The public is invited to an open house 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Community Center.
