SILVERHILL, Ala. — The Oscar Johnson Memorial Library Board presented four $1,000 scholarships recently to students in the Silverhill area.

“This is an investment in your future and in the future of Silverhill,” said Library Board President Frankie Kucera at a gathering of the scholarship recipients on Wednesday at the Library. “We wanted to pick kids from Silverhill because you are all special to us.”

This is the first year the Library Board has given the scholarships and all of the students are from the Silverhill area.

They are:

• Dylan Young, the son of Tonya Young, is a graduate of Robertsdale High School and an engineering student at Auburn University.

• Sydney Mott, the daughter of Fred and Laurie Mott, is a graduate of Central Christian School, and will attend Faulkner State Community College in the fall.

• Nathan Brockman, the son of Constance Brockman, is a graduate of Central Christian School, and plans to study information technologies at the University of South Alabama.

• Kayla Douglas, the daughter of Claude Wayne Douglas, is a graduate of Robertsdale High School and will attend Faulkner State.

Funds for the scholarship came primarily from the annual Oscar Johnson Memorial Library Car Show, which is held each year the Saturday before Memorial Day in Silverhill. Also present Wednesday were volunteer Library Director Shirley Stephens and volunteer Marian Fosberg.
