SILVERHILL, Ala. — While Silverhill police are “looking at all options,” it appears at this time, according to Silverhill Chief of Police Kim Wasdin that 45-year-old William B. McKibbon III died Sunday, Nov. 29 as the result of an accidental gunshot wound.
The incident happened at McKibbon’s home on County Road 49. Wasdin said the exact address is not being released to protect the family’s privacy.
“It happened Nov. 29 between 12:30 and 1 a.m.,” said Wasdin. “He had a wonderful wife and was the father of two. I do believe it was an accident, but we are looking at all the options.”
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
Wasdin said that it appears that McKibbon had gone outside to retrieve a hunting rifle from his vehicle he’d used earlier in the day on a hunting trip with friends when the weapon discharged. The family was apparently in bed when the incident happened.
