SILVERHILL, Ala. — The Silverhill Town Council declared an end to the towns state of emergency at its regular meeting Monday.
On March 9, the council called a special meeting declaring a state of emergency in the town after a tornado caused extensive damage to several area structures, including residences, businesses and the town’s historic Little Bohemian Hall.
The state of emergency was extended through March 31 as cleanup efforts continued. The town council voted unanimously Monday to end the state of emergency with all council members present.
In other business Monday the council unanimously passed Resolutions 433, 434 and 435 amending the town’s ordinances regarding pay scale for town employees. The new resolutions reflect a 1 percent cost of living pay increased that was passed at the council’s March 21 meeting.
Resolution 433 covers the town’s labor and utilities department workers; 434 covers the town’s police chief and officers; and 435 covers the town’s superintendent of utilities, assistant superintendent of utilities and office staff.
In other business Monday the council:
• Voted to pay for tree removal in the right of way of a property in town at a cost of up to $770. Mayor Tim Wilson abstained from voting.
• Approved an agreement with ALDOT for sidewalk maintenance along Highway 104. Council member Jared Lyles abstained from voting.
• Voted to appoint Shirley Stephens as the town’s library director. Stephens abstained from voting..
• Met in executive session for approximately 30 minutes to discuss possible litigation.
