Silverhill Town Council passes balanced budget

SILVERHILL, Alabama — The Silverhill Town Council passed a balanced budget at its meeting Oct. 3 with expenses and income estimated at just over $1.3 million for the 2016-17 fiscal year.

The balanced budget includes expenses and income projected at $1,359,559,96 for the 2016-17 fiscal year.

By far the largest revenue for the town is tax revenue with a projected income of $473,675 for the upcoming fiscal year with utility fund income projected at $398,360 with expenses in the utility fund estimated at $409,981 with projected vehicle expenses of $11,800.

General fund expenses are projected at $405,689 with an income in the general fund estimated at $145,832 for 2016-17. Municipal Court income is projected at $201,775 for 2016-17 while expenses of $134,250 are projected.

Police Department expenses are projected at $191,500 with vehicle expenses of $30,500 with an income projected at $2,700 for the Police Department. The Silverhill Volunteer Fire Department has a projected income of $94,537 with expenses of $77,663.48.

Other income for the town includes, State Gas Tax, $11,745 ($18,050 expenses); Heritage Day $8,850 ($1,250 expenses); Community Center, $7,000 ($12,300 expenses); Little Hall, $6,000 ($4,800 expenses); Library, $5,635 ($8,300 expenses); Parks and Recreation, $3,450 ($12,525 expenses).

Other expenses include, Mayor and Council, $19,800; and Sanitation and Street expenses, projected at $15,150.

In other business Oct. 3, the council:

•Adopted an ordinance amending a previous ordinance regarding authorization and establishing minimum fees for the release of lawfully impounded vehicles.

•Adopted an ordinance amending a previous ordinance regarding re-inspection fees under the Building Code ordinance.

•Approved a request by Silverhill Fire Chief Gary Patrick to send five Explorers, along with four adult supervisors to a weekend Fire College event. Silverhill Mayor Tim Wilson voted against the measure, objecting to the Explorers and adult supervisors staying at different locations. “Otherwise, I’m for it,” he said.

•Introduced an ordinance providing regulations for false alarms and penalties for violations. The ordinance will be advertised and brought up for approval at a future meeting.
