Silverhill's Josh Anthony earns Eagle Scout award

SILVERHILL, Alabama — Josh Anthony has earned the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award. He was recognized in a Court of Honor ceremony Saturday at the Silverhill Community Center.

A member of Troop 45 in Robertsdale, Josh is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the rank of Eagle. Each Eagle Scout must earn 21 merit badges, show leadership, and successfully complete a community or church related service project to complete his Eagle Scout requirements.

For his service project, Josh organized and built prayer benches at St. Patrick Catholic School.  The cypress benches encircle trees near the school playground. A guardian angel statue sits in the center atop a pedestal that bears a plaque with the Guardian Angel prayer.

The statue was donated by classmates in memory of Carlin Davis, a student who died of cancer. The entire area is landscaped with stepping stones, landscape timbers and azaleas.

Josh was the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 45, and is now an assistant Scoutmaster. He has served as assistant patrol leader, troop guide, scribe and den chief for the Arrow of Light of den Pack 45.

Josh is a member of the Order of the Arrow Woa Cholena Lodge 322 and has received the honor of Brotherhood. In 2015 he attended the National Order of the Arrow Conference, NOAC 2015, for the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow.

A senior at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, Josh will be attending Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville, Ohio, this fall, majoring in theology and catechetics.

Josh is the son of Steve and Denean Anthony of Silverhill and the grandson of Mary deLaunay of Silverhill and the late Nick deLaunay, and Frank and Mary Anthony of Mobile.
