Sisters open tea bar in Foley

FOLEY, Ala. — A couple of familiar faces announced their return to the Foley business scene Saturday as The Copper Kettle tea bar held its grand opening Saturday.

Located in a historic house on Chicago Street, just across the street from the east side of Heritage Park, the Copper Kettle is owned and operated by Michigan transplant sisters Robin Peters and Sue Adams.

The facility has tables both indoors and courtyards in both front and back of the building. Operating hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tea is $3 per pot and a cup of coffee is $2.25.

Lunch is served 11 a.m.-3 p.m. “or until we run out,” Adams said.

“It’s a light lunch,” she added.

The menu changes from day to day and isn’t decided until that morning.

“We put it on Facebook about 10 o’clock,” Peters said.

Dishes can include Fall Harvest Bisque or Tomato Bisque and a sandwich and run $6.60-$8.50, not including the beverage.

“If you’re going to bring a group for lunch, it’s best to call and make a reservation,” Peters said, “so we’ll make sure to have enough.”

The Copper Kettle has actually been open since July. However, the owners felt Saturday was a good opportunity to announce themselves.

“And say we’re here,” Peters said.

“Here, you may be asked to share your table with somebody you don’t even know,” Peters said.

Customers filling those tables have their choice of the previously-mentioned coffee and teas provided by small businesses, such as Wolf Bay Coffee Roasters.

“Their name came up to me because they do local coffee,” Peters said.

Dan Rush was among the vendors to display hidden skills as he provided glass-blowing demonstrations for Saturday’s crowds.
