SUMMERDALE, Ala. — Six teenagers, ranging in age from 14 to 17, were involved in a wreck at the intersection of County Road 32 and 73 in Summerdale on Saturday night around 9 p.m., according to Summerdale police.
Three of the teens were said to be in critical condition and all six of them were taken to different hospitals to be treated for their injuries.
Occurring near the Summerdale Cemetery, the King Cab the teens were riding in was attempting to pass another vehicle when the driver lost control and ran into the ditch, eventually colliding with a tree, police said.
Some of the passengers were ejected from the truck and it is known three of them attended Robertsdale High School. No names have been released and Summerdale Police could not be reached for further comments.
Attempts to contact Summerdale Police Chief Dwain Riebling on Monday to confirm information were unsuccessful.
Theresa Bryant, Robertsdale High School Principal, said counselors would be available for those students who needed to talk to them.
“Our heart goes out to those students and their family and friends. All of us are keeping the kids in our prayers. This is such a tragedy for these young people, their families and friends,” Bryant said.
